Executive Proclamation State of South Dakota Office of the Governor Whereas, The Congress, by Joint Resolution, has designated October of each year as "National Disability Employment Awareness Month"; and, Whereas, We recognize the many contributions citizens living with disabilities make to our society, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting them in achieving full inclusion in our workforce; and, Whereas, We affirm the words of the Declaration of Independence of our nation that every human being has inherent worth bestowed upon them by the Creator, and that equality is a fundamental right; and, Whereas, We affirm the words of the Declaration of Independence "We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness;" and, Whereas, We affirm our founding father's intent of equality resonates across America for people with disabilities and that obstacles preventing them from achieving their human potential be removed; and, Whereas, Making good on this fundamental obligation is our duty as a state and nation: Now, Therefore, I, M. Michael Rounds, Governor of the state of South Dakota, do hereby proclaim October 2008 as in South Dakota, and I call on all citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities that support and promote providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
